E-marketing campaign gets off to a great start!

The Client
Excell Ultrasound is a Peterborough based company providing diagnostic ultrasound scans in the East of England and East Midlands, specialising in providing a mobile service in community based settings such as Doctor’s surgeries and Community Hospitals. The small dedicated team of sonographers carry out a range of examinations using the latest in portable ultrasound equipment.
 
The majority of work is commissioned by Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) for NHS patients. Excell Ultrasound provide a simple, streamlined service ensuring patients are seen quickly but also ensuring that results are issued to the referring doctor as soon as possible. With a proven track record of providing a high quality of service in the East of England with excellent feedback from both patients and referrers, Excell Ultrasound are passionate about the service they deliver and the work they do.
 
The Challenge
Excell Ultrasound was set up in 2006 by four sonographers who had previously worked together for the NHS. As highly skilled practitioners with a comprehensive understanding of the NHS and the challenges it faces, Excell learnt their business and marketing skills on the job.
With a number of successful contracts in the East of England, they were keen to grow their client base with the focus on increasing the number of NHS contracts.
In 2009 Excell Ultrasound received grant funding from Opportunity Peterborough. A proportion of the grant awarded was to be allocated for Marketing Consultancy. Excell Ultrasound contacted Terry to seek his advice and expertise on how to address the challenges of growth and target prospective customers.
The Solution
With a very tight budget to work with Terry recommended that consultancy resources focused on helping Excell Ultrasound to build an e-marketing programme, targeting their NHS contacts with a regular monthly e-newsletter. This newsletter would promote their services, educate the readers on new developments, discuss what makes Excell Ultrasound different and encourage referrals both within the NHS and to private clients.
The marketing support programme put forward to Excell Ultrasound included the following; 
  • Planning the introduction of an e-Marketing programme
  • Providing Skills Transfer coaching to assist with the introduction of an e-Marketing programme and equip with relevant skills.
  • Access to telephone support service where they could call us to discuss any issue arising. 
The Outcome
A workshop and introduction session was held to cover areas such as;
  • Target Market – who specifically to target within the NHS?
  • Database - existing and new data.
  • Newsletter content - brainstorming and ideas.
  • Creating an e-newsletter - producing a template and managing the production and distribution of each newsletter, plus measuring the success of their e-newsletter campaigns.
  • Producing a newsletter schedule/calendar.
In March 2010, the first Excell E-Newsletter was distributed. It was great to see from the reports that 41% of people who had received the newsletter actually opened it and then went on to click the links through to their website – not a bad response rate for a first newsletter! Teresa Simms, Sales and Marketing Director at Excell Ultrasound was delighted to report, “Our website traffic last month really increased as a direct result of our newsletter. This is a really positive step for us”.
