Great Britain’s William Sharman finished 4th in the final of the men’s 110m hurdle at the World Championships in Berlin last month. “I gave it everything I had” said the 24 year old from Corby, Northamptonshire.
First to sail across the line in the semi-final, outsider William Sharman earned himself a place on the starting blocks of the World Championships final in Berlin last month. An apparent injury knocked reigning Olympic Champion Dayron Robles out of the competition. Described as an ‘unknown rookie’ by former world record holder Colin Jackson, William has already made it very clear that he be pushing for Gold at London 2012.
On finishing the final at the World Championships, William openly thanked his past coach, and Terry Forsey.
Before the 2008 Beijing Olympics, William Sharman found himself unable to gain the sponsorship and funding he needed. Fortunately for William, Terry Forsey stepped forward and offered to find him the financial backing he needed to fund his training. “William is a true star. I have known him for many years and appreciate how much hard work and dedication he has put into his athletics. He was having great difficulties with gaining sufficient funding needed to get him to Beijing and was on the point of giving up, I knew that with help and financial support he could realise his lifetime ambition of competing at the Olympics” Terry said.
A very unlucky simultaneous false start at the UK 2008 Olympic trials saw William disqualified - a bitter disappointment for him. Recent events in Berlin will have hopefully pushed that unfortunate Olympic qualifying heat to the back of William's mind.
Terry went on to say “I was thrilled to see William finish 4th at the World Championships; this is the start of a very exciting journey for him”. Terry continues to support William and eagerly follow his progress.
He looks forward to watching him compete at the 2011 World Championships and of course London 2012.
