Putting your website at the centre of your sales and marketing!

News September 2008

Doing business via the Internet is by far the fastest growing selling and marketing medium around – and any commercial organisation that does not put a website at the centre of its sales and marketing efforts can be missing out on vital new customers.

These are the thoughts of Technology Sales and Marketing Coach, Terry Forsey who believes that all technology companies need a website.

“Over the last few years it has become increasingly important that websites are effective, efficient and attractive – in the same way a shop window encourages you to go inside, web pages should make you want to click into the site and find out more,” he commented.

“Successful business to business marketing needs a well-coordinated range of tools driving visitors to their site, for example by using Google AdWords and on-line news releases but also by ‘publicising’ the web address at every opportunity – via valuable collateral including newsletters, white papers, electronic brochures and other promotional materials.

“This means putting the website at the centre of sales and marketing activities, but smaller companies are known for spending time and effort in devising fancy, design visuals using images and illustrations – that although may be technically very advanced – can be unreadable to search engines and not give the potential customer the information they are seeking.

“The wording on web pages is often overlooked and treated very much as a ‘after thought’,” added Terry. “But it is a critical component in ensuring the site fulfils its ‘raison d’etre’ – stilted text or confused copy will deter sales and alienate buyers. Wording needs to be succinct yet give an accurate description of the service or product on offer whilst highlighting benefits and advantages. A good combination of style and content is needed to attract and hold attention – its’ not always good enough to do the job yourself – professional input gives professional results, and the investment will be evident to all who visit the site, reflecting the qualities of your organisation.”
