Terry Forsey Technology Sales and Marketing Coach

Olympic hopeful backed by small business

News November 2007

A bright young talent and Olympic hopeful has gained the support of small business to better his chances for Beijing next year.

William Sharman, 110m hurdler from Northamptonshire, has secured the backing of Technology Sales and Marketing Coach, Terry Forsey, to enable him to work with some of the world’s leading trainers.

“William is the only athlete from Corby to be in contention for a place in the Olympic team,” said Terry. “It is a matter of great local pride that I am helping him to attract funds that will ensure he receives the specialist training needed to succeed in such a competitive sport.

“I am calling upon colleagues and business associated from around the region to ‘step-up’ and support William in his quest to become a successful Olympic athlete.”

With Terry’s financial assistance, William will be heading out to Cuba in December to spend a month of warm weather training with Dayron Robles - the Pan American Games Champion.

It is then hoped that sufficient funds can be raised to allow William to travel to China to train with Olympic and World Champion, Lui Xiang.

“I am delighted that Terry and his colleagues are supporting me - it means a great deal,” said William. “At the moment, I am in a strong position and ready - both physically and mentally - to make the next step in my training regime. I am committed to improving my personal best time of 13.49 seconds – which is already an Olympic qualifying time – but now need world class competition in my training routine, something I have been without until now as the funds have just not been available. But with financial backing and dedicated training opportunities, I believe I am in with a real chance of a medal next year.”

William continues to train with John Anderson who has worked with numerous world record holders Dave Moorcroft, David Jenkins and David Bedford - together they have secured William’s position as one of the top 20 sprint hurdlers in the world.

In August, William comfortably won the 110m hurdles UK Challenge final at Crystal Palace – Terry believes this victory was just the first of many.

“I am honoured to be associated with such am ambitious and talented athlete,” he added. “William’s future success – and indeed, that of Team GB, is now in our hands, I hope we can give him the support he needs to bring back a medal.”
