The world of recruitment is changing!
It's imperative that you tailor the style of interview to really be sure your potential employee has the skills to deliver.
Would you expect a Professional Sportsman, let's say an athlete, to be selected for the UK Olympic team by attending an interview in a suit and telling the team manager how great a runner or hurdler they are? Or would you expect them to arrive in a track suit ready to demonstrate their ability?
Would you expect an actor to be selected for the role of Macbeth in an office or on the stage? Would you expect him to relate his CV or recite a Shakespeare script?
Traditional interviews involve too much personality! An audition allows the participant to show me what they can do.
If a salesman does not demonstrate the most basic of sales techniques in an interview what makes you think they'll do so in front of your customer? If they claim to have solution selling skills what would you expect them to do in an interview to demonstrate that they were not just paying lip service to the phrase, but could truly demonstrate these techniques?
If a marketing manager cannot put together a professional presentation of how they can meet your job requirements and the value they would bring to your business, what makes you think they will be able to do that for your software and services if you appoint them?
In short, when recruiting a sales or marketing professional it is more than ever necessary that you adopt an audition style to the recruitment process and test in the most practical manner how short-listed candidates truly have the abilities you are seeking.
The CV is not the place to look but their performance in an audition, of which YOU are the judge!
